Supportive Housing Vouchers Available for Veterans
Preston Maynard, Director of Homeless Services for Veterans Affairs (VA) Connecticut, has announced that the Federal VA is issuing 140 new Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) vouchers to Connecticut on top of the 175 that have already been issued. Ninety of the vouchers will be issued through the Department of Social Services allowing flexibility in placement around the state.
If anyone knows of a homeless Veteran or Veteran family, please call the VA CT Homeless Veteran clinic at (203) 710-6529. An outreach worker would be happy to meet with the Veteran and discuss the services and housing programs of the VA CT.
The housing vouchers are meant for chronically homeless Veterans who need case management to be sustained in housing. It is not just a rental subsidy but a program of supportive services to the homeless. Many people are Veterans yet might not realize it. If someone has served in the military, is homeless or facing homelessness, have them screened by VA CT to see if they are eligible.
