Nationally trained volunteers facilitate two-day Dialogue Sessions. The purposes of the Dialogues are to help individuals understand racism and to foster racial unity within the community. The curriculum is continually updated in response to participant evaluation and as new materials become available. Covered topics have included: Cultural Racism; White Privilege; Ally Building; and more. A tuition fee is charged but waivers are made possible for those who need assistance.
Participate in a professionally facilitated dialogue and learn how:
- Racism is a community problem, not just a black problem;
- Dialogue is the intelligent exploration without blame or victimization; and
- Individual action does make a difference using the dialogue process.
This session is approved for 6 continuing education contact hours through the Connecticut Certification Board. The Co-Facilitators of the sessions are Dietra Hawkins, PsyD, Instructor at the Yale University School of Medicine and Stephen McMahon, MSOB, Diversity Trainer at Connecticut Valley Hospital.
Topics include: History and persistence of racism; Reclaiming cultural pride; Internalized and unaware racism; White privilege; Oneness of humanity; Institutional and systematic racism; Action in the community and at work; and Ally building.
